Breast Cancer Awareness in Bali: A Visit to Bumi Sehat Foundation

This October, in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we visited the Bumi Sehat Foundation in Bali, not as a formal collaboration, but as an act of learning, listening and raising awareness through the Alam Farma platform. Our intention was to better understand how local community clinics like Bumi Sehat serve women through reproductive care, early detection and education, and to share their inspiring story with our wider wellness community.

Understanding Bumi Sehat’s Mission: Gentle Birth, Accessible Health Care, and Community

Founded in 1995 by Ibu Robin Lim, a Certified Professional Midwife and CNN Hero of the Year (2011), the Bumi Sehat Foundation provides free or donation-based maternal, newborn and family healthcare in Indonesia and the Philippines. Their central clinic in Nyuh Kuning, Ubud, has become a sanctuary for mothers seeking gentle birth experiences, reproductive health services, and compassionate support.

What moved us most during our visit was their unwavering belief that optimal healthcare is a human right. Every check-up, birthing experience and educational session embodies dignity, compassion and equality.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Learning Through Action

While Bumi Sehat focuses primarily on maternal and family health, their community outreach also supports women’s wellness and early detection initiatives—including breast and cervical cancer awareness.

Our visit coincided with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, offering a meaningful opportunity to open dialogue about self-examination, prevention and holistic health.

At Alam Farma, we see health as a circle of care—one that connects what we apply on our skin, what we eat, and how we live. Sharing Bumi Sehat’s work allowed us to remind our community that awareness starts with education, access, and nourishment.

Do Good, Feel Good: The Alam Farma Moringa Project

As part of our Do Good Feel Good Moringa Project, Alam Farma donated organic moringa powder, grown in Timor, Indonesia, to the Bumi Sehat Foundation to support maternal nutrition.

Moringa—known locally as kelor is often called “The Miracle Tree.” It thrives in dry soil, requires little water and is naturally rich in vitamins A, C and E, calcium, iron, antioxidants and all nine essential amino acids.

Each leaf nourishes the body, strengthens the immune system and supports healthy skin from within. By donating moringa powder to Bumi Sehat, we extended our brand philosophy beyond skincare, turning nourishment into action.

Through this project, every bottle of Alam Farma’s Moringa Oil sold funds 1 kg of moringa powder for local communities in Sumba and Bali.
This is the heart of Do Good, Feel Good—a movement that reminds us that wellness and generosity can grow from the same root.

Why Nutrition and Awareness Go Hand in Hand

Breast cancer prevention isn’t only about early detection; it’s about creating the conditions in which the body can thrive. Nutrient-dense foods like moringa, stress-reducing rituals and toxin-free skincare help reduce oxidative stress and support hormonal balance—factors closely tied to women’s health.

At Alam Farma we advocate for an integrated approach to self-care:

  • Eat nutrient-rich whole foods like moringa to fortify the immune system.

  • Use clean, non-toxic skincare that supports hormonal harmony.

  • Practise regular breast self-examinations (SADARI) and attend clinical screenings (SADANIS).

  • Cultivate rituals of rest, movement and gratitude.

A Moment of Reflection

Visiting Bumi Sehat reminded us that healing is both intimate and collective. Whether it’s the gentle hands of a midwife or the conscious choice to live toxin-free, every small act of care contributes to a greater ripple of wellness.

This October, we invite you to join us in raising awareness for breast health—not only through conversation but through action, compassion and community support.
